Burisma Partners with II Ukrainian Gas Forum

October 13, 2016

The International Energy Group Burisma became a partner of II Ukrainian Gas Forum “Gas Market Creation: Imitation or Reality” held on October 12-13 in Kyiv, Ukraine, jointly by the European Federation of Energy Traders (EFET), Energy Community Secretariat, Committee on Fuel and Energy Complex, Nuclear Policy and Nuclear Safety of the Verkhovna Rada and the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine.

The Forum attended key European and Ukrainian energy stakeholders, including the Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Ambassador Hugues Mingarelli, and Coal Industry of Ukraine Ihor Nasalyk.

According to the Advisor to the Board of Directors at Burisma Vadym Pozharskyi, Group’s support for the Forum reflects its ongoing support for the energy reform in Ukraine and introducing European principles into Ukrainian gas market regulations.

“We have always tried to bring the government and market players together to reform domestic gas market based on best European practices. Such events are called to show the country’s strategic goals to domestic and foreign market players, infrastructure investors and Ukraine’s friends all over the world that want to see us as a predictable and reliable partner”, – noted Vadym Pozharskyi.

“The second Ukrainian Gas Forum falls on the turning-point of the new gas market model. The reform started in early April 2015 with the adoption of the law “On Natural Gas Market.” Unfortunately, 18 months in, we are still far from a truly competitive natural gas market. I believe that the second Forum provided a platform for an honest dialogue and helped eliminate all doubts as to the choice of our path, shed light on certain misconceptions and bring closer free market conditions”, – said the Head of the Forum Expert Council Leonid Unihovskyi.

According to him, among today’s top goals for reforming the Ukrainian gas market are a separate transportation, storage and supply, effective network of codes and a rational tariff based on the of “input / output”. The problem, however, is that none of these objectives has been achieved during the period from October 2015, when a new law “On natural Gas market” was adopted.

Currently, Burisma Group is introducing new social transparency standards for gas producing companies and increasing tax payments to budgets of all levels. The total volume of payments made by all operating companies will significantly increase by 2016 compared to previous periods. Burisma is going to pay over UAH 2 bln in tax liabilities to the budgets of all levels by the end of the year. Over the past few years, Burisma paid more than UAH 5 billion.
