Burisma Group Supports Atlantic Council Conference in Kharkiv

April 18, 2018

With support from Ukraine’s largest private gas producer Burisma Group, the Atlantic Council held its first conference in Kharkiv region on Ukrainian Economy, Energy Independence, Security and Investment.

Among the speakers that joined the discussion on Ukraine’s investment potential and the challenges the country is facing today, were John Herbst (Director of the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center and former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine (2003 – 2006), Yuliya Svitlychna (Governor of Kharkiv Region), Evelyn Farkas (former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia/Ukraine/Eurasia), Roman Popadiuk (the first US Ambassador to Ukraine (1992 – 1993), Morgan Williams (President at U.S.-Ukraine, Business Council) and Vadym Pozharskyi (Adviser to the Board of Directors at Burisma Group).

After the conference, the U.S. delegation visited Burisma facilities in Vodiane, Kharkiv region. The Vodyanivske field has one of the deepest wells in Ukraine and is a perfect example of ongoing cooperation between the U.S. and Ukraine in the energy sector.

“Since the 2014 Revolution of Dignity, Ukraine has embarked on an ambitious agenda of economic and financial reforms with strong support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other transatlantic partners. While the country faces numerous political and economic challenges, and while more needs to be done to address corruption in the judicial system and law enforcement, the potential of Ukraine as an investment destination is immense. The country still faces structural challenges and more work needs to be done both by the Government and the society, and they should start with the energy sector”, commented John Herbst, former US Ambassador to Ukraine (2003 – 2006), Director of the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center.

“We are delighted that the Atlantic Council held such an important event in Kharkiv. I believe that this decision highlights the efforts we exert and the reforms we are currently implementing in regards to energy independence and investment climate. Though the issues raised during our discussion are a concern not solely to our region, but to the whole country”, commented Yuliya Svitlychna, Governor of Kharkiv region.

“This is a wonderful initiative, and we at Burisma Group are glad to be a part of it and contribute in any way we can into the cooperation between U.S. and Ukraine. We are also proud to be the first Ukrainian company to launch strategic partnership with U.S. oil & gas equipment producers. We have been continuously working with biggest names in U.S. business, including Weatherford, Halliburton, National Oilwell Varco, Schlumberger, Service King Manufacturing Inc, and introducing latest technologies in Ukraine”, said Adviser to the Board of Directors at Burisma Group Vadym Pozharskyi.
