May 24, 2016

Burisma Group, Ukraine’s leading independent gas producer, became a general partner of the largest European electric car rally – Electric Marathon 2016. This year the marathon starts on May, 22 at Ploscha Rynok, Lviv and finishes at Palace Square, Monte Carlo, on June, 3.

The ceremony was opened by Andriy Sadovyi (the Mayor of Lviv), Vadym Pozharskyi (Advisor to the Board of  Directors of  the Burisma Group),  Jüri Tamm (the President of the Marathon) and Andriy Bilyy (CEO of Electric Marathon International). Traditionally, the European electric rally is held under the patronage of His Serene Highness Prince of Monaco Albert II. The main goal of the event is to attract attention of the European community towards environmental issues, to promote “green” vehicles among Ukrainian and European citizens, and to contribute to the related infrastructure development.

It is also symbolical that the marathon will be finished with the pan-European international forum Energy Security for the Future: New sources, Responsibility, Sustainability, established by Burisma Group jointly with Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and Electric Marathon International. The event will be held on June 2, 2016 in Monte Carlo, Monaco and will bring together European politicians, civil society and businessmen on issues of alternative energy sources energy security in Europe.

“Today the idea of energy saving is highly appreciated in the world. A hundred years ago the world was fond of internal combustion engines, but today we realize that electric cars are our vehicles of the future. It is important for us to show to Ukraine and to the whole world, that we do not simply have to take all the best from the world, but we have to offer as well. We support clean and renewable energy sources. Attention to the environment and desire to minimize harmful emissions of vehicles become one of the most prominent European values”, said Andriy Sadovyi, Mayor of Lviv.

Vadym Pozharskyi, advisor to the Board of Directors of the Burisma Group admitted that this marathon is not only a way to challenge technical capabilities of electric vehicles.

“It is the start of the pan-European environmental movement aimed at promotion of renewable energy and creation of new policy of Europe’s energy security. This movement is headed by the Burisma Group in association with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. After passing the whole Europe, the Marathon will finish off in Monte Carlo, where the international forum Energy Security for the Future will gather politicians, experts and businesspeople who care about the future of Europe and satisfaction of its needs with clean energy”.

The electric Marathon supported by Burisma Group takes off in Ukraine for the second year in a row: in 2015 the marathon started in Kyiv, in 2016 – in Lviv. In two weeks the participants of the Marathon will cover the distance of over 3,000 kilometres. This year the participants of Electric Marathon will drive both well-known and new, exotic models of electric and plug-in hybrid cars: Tesla model S, BMW i8, Fisker Karma, etc. Besides, there will be a separate group of participants with vehicles that use alternative energy sources. At certain stages they will be joined by the owners of electric bicycles.

Burisma Group is going to continue to support the alternative energy projects and initiatives that promote energy security in Ukraine and Europe.
